- The invention relates to an image decoding method, an image encoding method, and a recording medium storing a bit stream formed by the image encoding method. The image decoding method includes: determining a reference picture index of a temporal merge candidate for a current prediction block; deriving a temporal merge candidate from the temporal merge candidate blocks derived based on the currentprediction block; based on whether temporal merge candidates are available, including the temporal merge candidate in a merge candidate list of the current prediction block; and obtaining a predictionsample of the current prediction block by using the merge candidate list; obtaining a residual sample of the current transform block by performing inverse transform; and generating a reconstruction block through adding the prediction sample residual sample together.
