- The invention relates to an image decoding method, an image encoding method, and a recording medium storing a bit stream formed by the image encoding method. The image decoding method includes the steps of determining a reference picture index of a temporal merging candidate for a current prediction block; deriving a temporal merging candidate from a temporal merging candidate block derived basedon the current prediction block; based on whether the temporal merging candidate is available, including the temporal merging candidate into a merging candidate list for the current prediction block;obtaining a prediction sample of the current prediction block by using the merging candidate list; obtaining a residual sample of a current transform block by performing inverse quantization and inverse transformation; generating a reconstructed block by adding the prediction sample and the residual sample together; and applying a deblocking filter to the reconstructed block.
