Abstract
The purpose of RFID technology is to provide userspecified services by refining the tag data that satisfy a specific condition among a large number of raw data from RF readers, and by using the linkage with the business information system. However, the current specification for the RFID application event refinement is structured in a form to be processed based on the RFID middleware. This is inconvenient for clients with insufficient technological understanding in terms of the use of such middleware. Furthermore, the current RFID application services are limited in terms of that developers must be familiar with varied and detailed technologies such as ALE, ONS, EPCIS in the field of business as well as RFID-relevant technologies. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a specification to refine the events in the RFID network environment and a RFID service policy definition language for clients to easily specify the business rules corresponding to such refined RFID events based on their own perspectives. Also, this paper describes a policy rule processing mechanism in order to actually drive the business logic when the result is 'true'. Through the method suggested in this study, RFID service policy clients can offer services without deep understanding about the RFID sub-infrastructure.
