Abstract
In this paper, several parallelization methods for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) decoders are compared and their performances are presented. After completion of standardization of HEVC version 1 at January 2013, a number of researches for parallelization and real-time codecs have been studying to commercialize 4K-UHD and 8K-UHD high-resolution video decoders. This paper introduces parallelization techniques which can be used in HEVC decoders for the real-time decoding of high-resolution videos. Experimental results of each method show that the average speed-up factors are 4.86, 2.64, 2.61 and 4.68 for tile technique, wavefront parallel processing (WPP), frame-level parallelism, and 2D-Wavefront parallelism, respectively.
