Abstract
In this paper, we propose augmented broadcasting service for next generation smart TV and verify the related technologies. The next generation smart TV is not a simple joint connection between broadcasting and broadband but a truly convergence beyond limitation of classic viewing or constrained UI/UX, and aims at truly viewer-centric broadcasting, straightforward multimedia consuming, and social network participating. Augmented broadcasting as its new broadcasting application service is to show enhanced broadcasting content on large TV screen as AR in mobile device shows the mixed content at a right position. Now the one-sided broadcasting service using AR has already been tried in virtual advertisement of sports broadcasts. Because it is to handle all augmentation before the video image is transmitted, the viewer at home may never influence this compositing, no interaction for the user is possible unless the viewer has a direct connection to the content producer. The proposed technology enables viewers to watch the mixed broadcasting contents when they want only the service and to watch the original broadcasting content when they don't. Also the method of content rendering on a receiving terminal makes every viewer choose own preferred contents or control them via UI/UX 1. © 2012 IEEE.
