Abstract
We report on the placement of core-shell (CdSe)ZnS nanocrystallites quantum dot-sensitized solar cells on MgO passivated TiO 2 electrodes. An efficient charge transfer from core-shell (CdSe)ZnS dots to a TiO 2 was achieved because the ZnS shell suppresses the charge recombination at the electrode-electrolyte interface, causing more electrons to be injected into the TiO 2 conduction band. It is shown that the deposition of an MgO onto photoanodes used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) improves their light-to-electric power conversion efficiency. As a result, we obtained an energy conversion efficiency of 1.18% by using 2.6 nm core-shell (CdSe)ZnS dots on MgO/TiO 2 under AM 1.5 irradiation.
