Abstract
A great number of new information technologies (IT) have been developed in Korea since the 2000s. As the success and failure of new IT have shown great tremendous effect on businesses and users, research on the influence on the diffusion of IT has become an important theme. Existing researches identify the perceived usefulness as the main factor for users to adopt IT. However, there are cases in which users do not adopt IT even when they perceive their usefulness. This paper empirically examines the effects of the perceived risk and the switching barrier as the adoption barrier on Koreans' behavioral intention to use the smartphone. As a result, the adoption of the smartphone was shown to be influenced by the financial risk among the perceived risks, and the benefit loss cost and the non-attractiveness of other service providers among the switching barriers.
