Abstract
The importance of navigation in sea is highlighted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in the "Safety Of Life at Sea"(SOLAS) regulation. Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) is an electronic chart which includes all kinds of information related with nautical chart for Navigation. Various organizations are collecting similar information and storing data in different formats. In this paper, we suggest a database-driven system for ENC. It is based on the system applications implemented on a Spatial Database and Management System (SDBMS), where each feature just needs to be stored once. And it uses the single data set for multi-users or a variety of equipments such as Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and AIS Plotter.
