Abstract
A nautical chart is a graphic representation of a maritime area and adjacent coastal regions. It is usable with ship-plotters and navigation-equipment on board. There are two types of digital chart; Raster Navigational Charts (RNC) and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC). A Raster Navigational Chart is an accurate digital image comprised of pixels which are displayed on an electronic screen. Each pixel has a unique colour or it has no colour. An Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) is navigational features in a vector format. That is achieved by digitizing each feature's geometry into a specific object. Cartographers collect the vector features according to a data standard, called the S-57, S-101 format, recognized by international treaties obtained through the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). In this paper, we propose another chart called TNC (Tile-map Navigation Chart). Mariners can navigate with a TNC using a Tile-map Navigation Chart Display System (TNCDS) that interprets the stored data. It provides access to cartographic maps of geo-referenced data by Web Service of OGC Web Map Tile Service (WMTS).
