Abstract
This paper proposes an update-safe boot system to guarantee system safety during software update in automotive embedded systems. The update-safe boot system consists of a monitor program and two boot programs. The monitor program checks the validity of a bootloader and an operating system. If the primary bootloader and operating system do not pass the validity check, the monitor program calls the secondary bootloader and operating system for the software update. In experimental results, we can see that the overhead due to double boot processing is very small.
