Abstract
The design of an efficient rectenna with vertical ground-walls for RF energy harvesting is proposed. The proposed rectenna is composed of the broadband dipole-type antenna and the rectangular ground plane with two vertical ground-walls. Especially, the vertical groundwalls are designed to suppress and harvest the back-lobe of the main radiator without the disturbances of the main radiator's electrical performance. The back-lobe of the proposed rectenna is significantly reduced to 8.4 dB and the amount of the harvesting energy is approximately 1.74% of the original input power. This rectenna has an advantage of simple design which helps to harvest RF energy from high-gain antennas. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013.
