Abstract
Understanding the environment is essential for the service robots that are supposed to coexist with humans, which heavily depends upon the perception technologies. In this respect, many researchers have made efforts to improve the performance of individual algorithms. However, we thought that organizing them to make best use of is as important. For the purpose, this paper proposes a framework called perception daemon that encapsulates the complicated technologies and provides semantic level messages for the service applications. By doing so, the service developers can concentrate on creating attractive high quality services instead of struggling with the unaccustomed technical details. It is shown that a service application with the proposed model is far simpler and more efficient than with the conventional component library model, in which the perception technologies are provided as passive functions so that the service application can call whenever is necessary.
