Abstract
The ionosphere can be the largest source of error in GPS positioning and navigation. So study on the ionospheric layer is important not only to scientist but also to GPS engineering. In this paper, we present a conversion algorithm from the oblique ionogram to the equivalent vertical ionogram of the path midpoint, based on some equivalence theorems between the vertical sounding and the oblique sounding in the ionosphere. In order to verify the conversion algorithm, equivalent vertical ionograms are compared to the measured vertical ionograms. The results of comparison show that conversion algorithm working well for the shortpath oblique ionogram. Therefore equivalent vertical ionograms could be applied to get the electron density profiles at the mid-point.
