Abstract
While the existing rotational motor-based laser scanner and the FPA (focal plane array)-based laser radar have their own advantages such like panoramic and flash three-dimensional (3-D) images, their commercialized adaptation were quite limited due to the big rotational part of the sensor head and the very expensive FPA and Readout IC, respectively. In this paper, a new threedimensional (3-D) laser radar architecture is proposed utilizing a static unitary detector. It provides high-resolution 3D images in a cost-effective way without any rotational part in the sensor. The spatial and range resolution of achieved 3-D images by an implemented experimental prototype was QVGA (320x240) and 3 cm, respectively, for given remote objects ranging up to 200 meters.
