Abstract
Wi-Fi devices gradually become cheap and Wi-Fi access points are becoming available everywhere. How to collect, integrate, and handle a tremendous volume of data efficiently become crucial especially when it comes to responding to users' requests. In this paper, we introduce a data model for Wi-Fi based positioning system. Owing to the essence of information related to spatial hierarchy of the space, three types of data are distinguished, namely raw data, location data, and fingerprint. They are therefore accommodated in three corresponding databases. They are then used to support localization for users in any building. We finally implemented a prototype system for an indoor environment. Experimental results show the status of data at different monitoring stage.
