Abstract
Distance estimation identifies the distance between two machines in a wireless network. The Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) of Bluetooth can be used to estimate the distance between smart devices. The characteristic of Bluetooth RSSI value is different in various environments. This paper presents the distance characteristic of Bluetooth RSSI based on experiments conducted in different environments such as indoor halls, meeting rooms, and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) chamber environments. The study reveals that there are significant measurement errors in Bluetooth RSSI raw data, making it challenging to estimate distance accurately. To address this issue, a Low Pass Filter (LPF) is utilized to reduce measurement errors. The results demonstrate that distance estimation using Bluetooth RSSI LPF data yields lower error rates compared to raw data, particularly in the EMC environment.
