Abstract
Recently, ITU-T/VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG have started a new joint standardization activity on video coding, called High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). This new standard gives significant improvement in terms of picture quality for high resolution video. The main challenge in this upcoming standard is the time complexity. In this paper a novel early CU SKIP detection technique has been proposed based on statistical modeling to reduce the encoder time. The proposed method has been implemented on HM 7.0 reference software. Experimental result shows our proposed technique gives superior result in terms of time complexity with marginal quality loss for all other fast options ON.
