Abstract
Acoustic echo is caused by a propagation-reflection mechanism of enclosures. Acoustic Echo Canceller (AEC) models these enclosures to eliminate echo signals. AEC is necessary function for hands-free and teleconferencing system. In this paper, a wide-band (WB) AEC system is designed using Altera® DE2 development board with full hardware modules to improve performance for faster operation. We developed WB-AEC algorithm using Matlab for performance and accuracy evaluation, and then ported it to an Altera NIOS II softconfigurable processor. As the result shows that WB-AEC system cannot operate in real-time with the NIOS II processor, we implemented the WB-AEC system using hardware logic only.
