Abstract
A thin p-Si layer and a buffer layer were employed in the fabrication of semi-transparent amorphous silicon solar cells. The thin p-Si layer was used to obtain high transparency as well as high current density, but it reduces the open circuit voltage (VOC) due to a reduced depletion charge. To overcome this restriction, a buffer layer was used to enhance VOC. The device with a 7.5 nm p-Si layer and a buffer exhibits transmittance of 48.75% and an efficiency of 5.36%. The inclusion of the buffer retains high efficiency for the use of thin p-Si layer. © 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
