Implementation of the Hybrid DMB Platform Based on the SmartDMB

- Abstract
- Recently, 6 T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Mobile Broadcasting) broadcasters have launched on the SmartDMB service. SmartDMB services are hybrid application-based services through which users can watch television on smartphones or tablet computers mounted with DMB modules and simultaneously be provided with diverse additional services on the same screen through wireless communication networks. For this, common API functions, too, are provided, which make it possible to provide DMB reception-related functions as a single service within an android framework. This paper briefly explains SmartDMB services and proposes the system that can provide switching services through hybrid stream delivery based on the SmartDMB and a hybrid DMB platform for function tests. In addition, to verity the potential of the services proposed, the prototype system and services for testing are explained as well. © 2013 IEEE.
