Abstract
Remote radio heads(RRHs) have become one of the most important subsystems of 4th generation mobile communication systems. They are generally connected to the baseband unit (BBU) via fiber optic cables. Data rate over the fiber is increasing to accommodate huge data traffic due to the increased bandwidth of the signal and the number of antennas. This increases the installation cost so much. Data compression schemes are being investigated to reduce the number of the fibers required in the system. In this paper, we investigated LTE-FDD physical layer to estimate the maximum allowed latency for compression and decompression processing in cloud radio access network. The investigated timing budget can be a requirement value in the specification for BBU and RRH interface.
