Service-Compatible 3DTV System Using MPEG-2 and HEVC Video

- Abstract
- The video qualities of HDTV as well as 3DTV should be maintained as high as possible for the dual–stream based service compatible 3DTV. In this paper we present a service-compatible 3DTV system using MPEG-2 and HEVC video. Based on the coding efficiency of HEVC, the presented system can allocate more bitrate to HD MPEG-2 video rather than 3DTV system with MPEG-2 and AVC video to provide the higher quality of 2D HDTV as well as 3DTV. For synchronized multiplexing, we also implement a 3DTV multiplexer which multiplexes two MPEG-2 TS; one TS consists of bit-streams for audio and MPEG-2 video and the other TS consists of bit-stream for HEVC video.
