Abstract
The environment for Internet services has rapidly changed from fixed-based to mobile-based with the wide popularity of smart phones and the emergence of various wireless/mobile networks. However, the current Internet has inherent difficulty in supporting mobility due to the overloaded semantics of the IP address. Therefore, several recent schemes have been proposed to separate identifier (ID) from locator (LOC) to support mobility. In this paper, we obtain a packet transmission time in ID/LOC separation schemes and compare it with the one in mobile IP. We also provide the threshold of the ID to LOC lookup time to be considered in designing and implementing ID/LOC separation schemes to take an advantage of the new Internet design.
