Abstract
It is widely noted that in many clinical cases small masses within dense breast tissues tend to be obscurely visualized using the X-ray mammography limiting its application on the various types of breast cancer diagnosis, whereas ultrasonography (US) has successfully detected masses even in dense breasts, much more frequently found among Asian women. Recent progress in three-dimensional (3D) US scanning and image processing techniques enables the clinicians to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional US imaging devices, i.e. the operator dependence and the poor reproducibility of the scanned US images.
