Abstract
GEO-KOMPSAT-2A satellite being prepared as a subsequent satellite of COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) will serve a high resolution weather information measured by AMI (Advanced Meteorological Imager) to the user of the weather service. The satellite ground system transmits the level 1b data back to the satellite generated by receiving and pre-processing a raw data from the satellite. GEO-KOMPSAT-2A satellite provides three types of direct broadcast services so that the users with the corresponding receiver can get level 1b data. Direct broadcast that GEO-KOMPSAT-2A will serve provides LRIT and HRIT data by default to ensure continuity of service of the existing COMS. Added to here, to support the high-resolution data, newly named UHRIT (Ultra High Rate Information Transmission) is planned to offer the service. If it is difficult to secure the additional frequency, LRIT and HRIT service currently being serviced by L-band frequency will be achieved in the manner that takes the conventional frequency for COMS over. In COMS, LRIT and HRIT data have been provided to the transmission rate of 256 kbps and 3Mbps, respectively [1,2]. In GEO-KOMPSAT-2A, it is possible for HRIT to have a data transmission speed of 5Mbps. Thus it is expected to improve the service for HRIT data. The broadcast service for UHRIT data is planned to be provided with X-band frequency. The transmission scheme is considered to follow the DVB-S2 broadcast standard. This paper presents the new service, UHRIT as well as LRIT and HRIT services. Transmission scheme and format for each data defined until now will be described. Additionally, a sending end and a receiving end for the direct broadcast service will be described.
