Abstract
The WAVE standard supports reliable safety message transmission to avoid the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) accidents. However, it overlooks a vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) accident since we do not have any support to exchange the safety messages between the pedestrians and vehicles. Nowadays, the pedestrians will be able to exchange the safety messages with vehicles through the mobile devices to avoid the V2P accidents. However, unlike vehicles, the mobile devices are energy-constrained since they work with limited batteries. In this paper, we therefore propose an energy efficient method to enable the V2P communication based on Wi-Fi direct technique. © 2014 IEEE.
