Abstract
In this paper, we present a fast 3D scanning method using a stereo vision system for 3D printing technology. The proposed method first captures stereo images and performs image down-sampling in the vertical direction. Then, the depth map is estimated by using the down-sampled images. In order to recover the depth map at the original resolution, we have applied a discontinuity-adaptive depth up-sampling algorithm is applied. This proposed method adaptively employs both the local minimum filter and the bilateral filter according to the covariance of the color and depth images. The experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed 3D scanning method realized fast operation compared with the conventional method.
