Abstract
In this paper, we intend to describe the initial acquisition process for wideband DVB(Digital Video Broadcasting)-S2(Satellite Second Generation) standard, so called TS(Time Slice) transmission that was presented in Annex E of DVB-S2x standard. The conventional receivers mainly for Ku band can accommodate typically whole satellite transponder bandwidth but TS one should do approximately between 200 and 500 MHz bandwidth using single receiver. It's inefficient to apply multiple receivers in terms of bandwidth and power utilization. On the contrary, it's so complicated that single receiver handles wideband transponder corresponding to very high symbol rate. Therefore, it's necessary to envisage new protocol in order to process huge data rate. Accordingly, the transmission protocol for TS was made by DVB-S2 standard group. This paper addresses firstly the essential results on initial acquisition which are composed with timing synchronization, frame synchronization, initial carrier synchronization, and header (Time Slice Number) identification. The sequential procedure for proper operation is specified and the results of performance evaluation are shown.
