Abstract
IEEE 802.11 based wireless LAN Technology is standardized for supporting wireless local area communication using 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz RF bands. More threats are arising from the vulnerability of the standard; therefore WIDS/WIPS (Wireless Intrusion Detection/Prevention System) is applied to the enterprise networks, especially where security is mandatory such as the public or financial institution. This system generally includes the functions to analyze the threats by monitoring wireless packets and deal with the rogue device or unintended behaviors. But it is difficult to monitor all packets because there are dozens of channels. Most products are adapting static channel scheduling, where scheduling is fixed on the initial policy. In this paper, we design and implement smart channel scheduling algorithm for wireless intrusion system to deal with this problem. Our implementation uses dynamic scheduling with analysis of the WLAN traffic, the number of APs or devices, the frequency of attacks, etc. Also, a specific channel is not bound with a monitoring NIC (Network Interface Card), but allocated to any NIC according to circumstances. With this, we provide a fair channel hopping for each channel.
