Abstract
Micro-simulation is not popular in Korea, especially in the society of Korean social scientists; Few models have been developed (e.g., MMESP, KIPFSIM). The ETRI demographic microsimulation project (ETRI DMS) has two main parts. The first one is to model the Korean demographic dynamics (e.g., growth, migration) at the micro-level and to develop a microsimulation platform that can run a number of micro-simulation models including ETRI Korean demographic model. At the initial stage of ETRI DMS, we made the following basic decisions about the initial version of the demographic micro-simulation model: (1) To use 1% micro-data from Korean Census 1990 as base dataset; (2) To follow one of the simplest model (e.g., UK SAGE) and then expand the model into more complex one; (3) To include mortality, fertility, divorce, marriage, leaving home, education, health, and economic earnings as modules of our model; (4) To use different datasets for parameter estimation from the base dataset; (5) To incorporate agent-based modeling (ABS) approaches to model the interaction among agents (e.g., marriages, international migration, birth, labor market)
