Abstract
Many commercial wearable devices are adapted the sleep monitoring system using wrist actigraphy. The performance of this system is fairly acceptable but it does not provide enough information for diagnosis of sleep. Therefore, we analyze the sleep stages with heart rate variability in addition to actigraphy-based sleep scoring algorithm in this study. The analysis is only conducted when there is a 'wake' stage detected in the actigraphy-based sleep scoring algorithm in order to save computation time and battery consumption. The experimental result gives enough evidence that heart rate and motion signals on the developed handheld device can provide quantitative information of sleep.
