Abstract
This paper proposes a notification for the availability of the shared tributary slots that are occupied with the imperfection of working ODUk path. This notification gives the prevention for weak protection switch protecting the working ODUk path. An ODU SMP architecture entails multiple ODUk signals that each ODUk service is assigned with an ODUk working path and several ODUk protection paths. If a failure of a working ODUk path is discovered, the relating protection path must be established to keep ODUk signal impregnable. When establishing one of the multiple protection paths at the endpoint, it is recommended to take advantage of the latest information on each protection's signal strength to complete the protection ODUk switching from working ODUk path to protection ODUk path less than 50ms. This notification mechanism will make it possible to rapidly reduce the ODUk switching time.
