Abstract
In this paper, we investigate various methods to provide optimal super resolution video quality for interlaced broadcast video inputs. We first propose a self-similarity based super resolution (SSSR) framework for high quality upscale, then deploy two different methods for processing interlaced video input. The first method applies the de-interlacing filter as a preprocess for the SSSR, and then converts the de-interlaced progressive HD frames into UHD frames. The second method divides the interlaced frames into two fields and apply SSSR on each fields separately, then applies de-interlacing filter as a post process to produce progressive UHD frames. For each methods, we investigate the kinds of artifacts induced and affected by the de-interlacing and SSSR procedures, and see how applying them in different order affects the objective and subjective quality of the output video.
