Abstract
A caching backend system, using remote granted memory as its cache media, is proposed for network filesystem. Caching is prevalent method to improve the performance of the filesystem by reducing the read access to slow storage. In this paper, we propose the new caching backend facility called CacheDM for network file system cache backend based on large remote contribution memory. By replacing the local storage based cache backend, it improves the read performance of cache operations and provides the shared cache backend which can be accessed or shared across multiple remote NFS client nodes. It is possible to improve read performance by reducing the count of data copy from the backend cache. It provides mapping object handling mechanism which mapping management between NFS file's page and remote memory block. It also provides cache interfaces to control and store data to cache backend.
