Abstract
In this paper, we propose a dedicated communication module for a network device based on PCI Express protocol. PCI Express has been used the standard system bus between a processor and I/O devices in the computer node. But, It can be used for a system interconnect network device using the characteristics of high-performance and low power. In order to solve the problems occurred when internal nodes of the cluster system like a HPC communicate each other through TCP/IP based socket communication on PCI Express network device, we design and implement a socket based dedicated communication module using the remote direct memory access (RDMA) provided by PCI Express device and the port link buffer mechanism supported by our communication module. Also, we show that a proposed module has the better performance than TCP/IP based socket communication on PCI Express network device by reducing the number of memory copy of the data payload to be transmitted.
