Abstract
Virtual simulation technology has been considered as the cheaper and more effective soldier training system than live training in view of cost and spatial restrictions. To maximize the virtual reality effect, timely interaction between human and virtual simulator is very important. Displacement and heading changes of trainee are crucial information to control the virtual simulator in view of highly reactive motion control for the omni-directional treadmill and movement control of the virtual environment. This paper proposes the simple control algorithm for the virtual training simulator by using the location of the trainee on the omni-directional treadmill. Two different joint positions are used to estimate the trainee’s location for feed-forward control of the omni-directional treadmill. Performance of the two approaches are evaluated by using location errors.
