Abstract
A beat-frequency-locking method was proposed to achieve dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) in bidirectional optical systems. The proposed method was tested experimentally using node-A and node-B connected by a single mode fiber (SMF). The method stabilized the relative channel frequency offset between the two communicating nodes. The relative channel frequency offset was controlled by using a 16-bit microprocessor within the wavelength control circuit. The analysis suggested that the method accurately allocated the channels at the other node without using wavelength lockers.
