Abstract
In this paper, we compare the BER performance of a WCDMA/TDD smart antenna system in a different angular spread channel in the uplink. We also see the correlation coefficient at array antennas (d=/spl lambda/2) under different angular spread environments. In general to apply beamforming algorithms in smart antenna systems the received signals at array antennas are assumed to be correlated. The main factors to make the channel uncorrelated are the angular spread and antenna distance (d). For the simulation the base station is equipped with an eight element array antenna, and the radio mobile channel is the Rayleigh fading channel model with different angular spread. The simulation was performed for different numbers of users and different Eb/No in a single cell. The MMSE beamforming algorithm is applied which uses the user specific midamble code as the reference signal. In WCDMA/TDD based smart antenna systems since the channel is reciprocal in both uplink and downlink, the estimated weight vector in the uplink can be applied to the downlink without any modification.
