Abstract
In this paper, we propose a novel predistortion scheme with the aid of a piecewise polynomial modeling of the AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics for an high power amplifier (HPA). Multiple polynomials are used to predistort the input signal instead of a single one, by dividing the input signal range into several regions. For a HPA model we considered, we optimized the number of regions, subdivision points and order of polynomial functions in each region to increase the predistortion performance without an increase of computational load. From the simulation results investigated in this paper, the proposed method showed about a 0.5 dB gain in total degradation compared to a conventional polynomial predistortion method.
