최근 기술 개발의 초점이 전통적인 유선 환경의 데이터 전송 방식에서 무선 환경에서의 고속 패킷 데이터 전송 서비스로 급속하게 변화하고 있다. 현재 ETSI BRAN 의 HIPERLAN/2 나 IEEE 802.11a 등이 무선 광대역 무선 멀티미디어 통신을 위하여 제안되고 있으며, 이에 앞서 3 세대 이동통신에서도 고속의 데이터 서비스를 위하여 2Mbps 급의 WCDMA(UMTS)와 CDMA2000 을 제안한 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 UMTS 의 네트워크 구조를 기술하고 유선환경에서 UMTS 단말기의 물리계층을 제외한 상위 계층을 검증할 수 있는 디버깅 네트워크 구조와 간단한 시뮬레이터를 제안한다. 그리고 Gratuitous ARP 메커니즘을 이용하여 효과적으로 UMTS 단말기의 패킷 영역의 데이터 처리기능을 검증할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다.
