Abstract
In this paper, we suggest a dual-mode equalizer for digital video broadcasting-satellite second generation (DVB-S2) system with a small roll-off factor over Ka-band satellite. In the most recent released DVB-S2 extension (DVB-S2X) standard, the pulse shaping filter with a small roll-off factor is included to improve the spectral efficiency. However, this filter induces the inter-symbol interference (ISI) despite the high spectral efficiency. When the transmitted signal passes through the satellite channel, the severe ISI may be additionally added by the group delay. This paper analyses the impact of ISI occurred by a small roll-off factor and the group delay in the conventional DVB-S2 system. The channel model considers the Ka-band Chollian satellite. Therefore, the elimination of ISI is necessarily required for the safe operation of the system. According to this request, we propose a dual-mode equalizer which performs the blind equalization and the data-aided equalization before and after the frame synchronization, respectively. The effectiveness of this dual-mode equalizer is verified by simulation results.
