Abstract
There are a lot of methods to predict rain attenuation on a statistical basis, however none of model to predict real time estimation of rain attenuation. The more demands for high-density or high-speed services via satellite, the higher frequency bands to use. The satellite system operating higher bands such as Ka-band, require predicting rain attenuation on a statistical as well as dynamic basis. An appropriate method, which predicts rain attenuation on the Korean satellite links, was already suggested by statistical approaches of ETRI's 3-year propagation measurements [Y.S. Choi, et al., Oct. 2001]. However, the efficient method to predict dynamic characteristics of rain attenuation did not developed yet. This paper introduces an estimation procedure for real-time signal level including rain attenuation by proposed statistical method. Comparisons of estimated results of real-time signal level with measured characteristics will be also described.
