Abstract
This paper presents several traffic control schemes for improving the quality of service (QoS) in cellular systems. Traffic control schemes are devised for the efficient use of the limited radio resources with the increasing number of users and multimedia traffic. Both numerical analysis and computer simulations are carried out for the performance evaluation in terms of performance measures. Important performance measures of the suggested traffic control schemes such as the blocking probability of new traffic, the forced termination probability of handoff traffic, and the noncompletion probability for four input multimedia streams are investigated. It reveals that a finite queueing scheme for real-time handoff traffic guarantees QoS metrics, such as the blocking probability of new traffic and forced termination probability of handoff traffic, as well as efficient use of radio resources. In this paper, the priority with reserved channel and queue scheme turns out to provide significant performance improvement.
