Abstract
With the expansion of services offered over the Internet, the “last mile” bottleneck problems continue to exacerbate. Ethernet based, passive optical network (EPON) is a technology viewed by many as an attractive solution to this problem. According to increasing complexity of access network system, it is very increased that need of a high level management system to handle functionalities such as system configuration, quality of services, bandwidth allocation and system availability. Moreover, network operators need an integrated operation environment over the access network system. In this paper we describe functional structures of a web-based EPON Element Management System (EMS) that is using EPON private MIB (Management Information Base) and GUI. It provides operational environments and integrated view over the EPON system and managed network. To provide mobility to operator, we developed web-base EMS on java platform.
