Abstract
In this paper, a new metallic disk array structure, stacked uniformly and finitely towards the boresight direction on a microstrip patch element, was proposed for high gain. The proposed multi-layered disk array structure (MDAS) plays the role of parasitic elements of the microstrip patch exciter. It is light and low-cost, and is not affected by environmental temperature characteristics because the metal disk arrays are implemented on a thin dielectric film. The MDAS can produce an element beam pattern focused in the boresight by the natural mutual coupling characteristics between longitudinal parasitic elements in free space. Therefore, radiation efficiency is high.
