이동수신이 우수한 디지털멀티미디어방송(DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 상용 서비스가 본격화됨에 따라, 사용자에게 서비스될 멀티미디어 콘텐츠에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라, DMB 시스템을 통하여 사용 자에게 현실감과 임장감을 더해주는 3DAV(3Dimentional Audio-Video) 콘텐츠는 새로운 형태의 멀티미디어 서비스 로 기대된다. 그러나 이러한 3DAV 콘텐츠가 기존의 DMB 수신기에서는 신호처리가 안되고 3DAV 전용 DMB 수신 기에 의해서만 가능하면, 콘텐츠 공급자 및 수요자 범위가 제한되며 콘텐츠 효용성이 저하될 것이다. 따라서 본 논문 에서는 기존 DMB 송신 및 수신 시스템에 포함되어 있는 미디어 처리기를 확장함으로써 DMB 시스템을 통하여 기존 시스템과의 역호환성(Backward Compatibility)을 유지하면서 3DAV 콘텐츠를 서비스할 수 있는 3DAV 미디어 처 리기 구조를 제시한다. 또한, 제안하는 3DAV 미디어 처리기는 기존 DMB 시스템에서 처리되는 AV 신호에 3차원 부 가 AV 신호가 추가됨으로써 4개의 객체를 처리해야 한다. 이에 따라, 기존 DMB 시스템의 BIFS(BInary Format for Scene)를 수정하지 않고 4개 객체를 제어할 수 있는 OD(Object Descriptor) 구조를 제시한다.
