Closed-loop Downlink Switched Beam Selection

- Two efficient beam selection algorithms of downlink transmit switched beam smart antenna system are proposed. In the first proposed algorithm, the best beam among the downlink fixed steered beams is selected by mobile station (MS) using the downlink channel estimation and already known weighting vectors for preset fixed beams. And in the second proposed algorithm, the best beam is selected based on the beam power measurements also at the MS side. In both cases the MS shall feed the selected beam index to base station (BS). Simulation results are shown and the advantages of the proposed algorithm are addressed.
