스펙트럼 확산기술은 비화성이 있고 사용자간 비동기 액세스가 가능하며 신호방해에 강하므로 군사통신, 무선통신분야에서는 널리 응용되고 있는 기술이기 때문에 초고속 멀티미디어 광 네트워크 분야에서의 응용도 최근에 큰 주목을 받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 광 네트워크에서의 광 스펙트럼/CDMA(code division multiple access) 기술 및 발전 방향에 대하여 분석한다. 그리고 무선통신시스템에 널리 사용되는 PN(Pseudo-random Noise) 부호에 의해 확산 및 역확산하는 시간영역 광 CDMA 방식에 의한 초고속 멀티미디어 광 네트워크를 제안한다. 이 방식은 데 광 스위치의 On/Off를 소프트웨어적으로 제어하여 확산 및 역확산하기 때문에 부호장의 설정 및 부호배분에 유연성을 가지는 장점을 지닌다. PN 부호간 동기가 확립된 시간영역 광 CDMA 방식을 적용하기 위하여 동기포착 및 동기추적 회로를 제안하고, 동기특성을 분석한 결과 동기포착을 위한 PN 부호 중에서 M(maximal length)계열 부호가 위상 차이에 대한 자기상관 특성이 우수하여 Gold 부호보다 양호한 동기특성을 얻을 수 있음을 알 수 있다.
