정보통신 인프라와 유비쿼터스 IT를 도시공간에 융합하여 도시생활의 편의를 도모하고 삶의 질 향상, 도시 기능의 혁신을 가져올 것으로 전망되는 21C 한국형 신도시인 u-City는 국내 IT 산업의 총체적인 역량이 집결되고 건설, 가전, 문화와의 컨버전스가 발전적으로 전개되는 장으로 부각되고 있다. 본 고에서는 일반인에 대한 조사결과를 바탕으로 u-City의 시장 기회와 잠재력을 파악하였으며 활성화를 위한 정책과 전략적 과제를 제시하였다. 분석결과, 일반인의 u-City에 대한 전반적인 평가는 긍정적이었으며 향후 134.6만 세대가 u-City로 이주하고자 하는 의향을 나타냈으며 u-Health와 u-홈네트워킹이 킬러 서비스로 부각되고 통신사업자가 제공하는 u-City 사업 모형에 대한 호감이 높은 것으로 나타났다.
