Abstract
This paper proposes the carrier phase estimation algorithm for turbo-coded OFDM systems under low SNR. The algorithm uses extrinsic information obtained from the turbo decoder for estimation the carrier phase offset. The estimation is based on Maximum Likelihood approach. Residual phase offset in each OFDM carrier is estimated by comparing the phases of soft decision decoder outputs and the channel symbols corresponding to that carrier at each iteration process. In comparison with conventional pilot signal assisted estimation technique, the proposed algorithm can significantly decrease usage of the excessive energy for pilot signals. The algorithm could be applied together with other algorithms to improve the performance of the OFDM carrier phase estimation.
